Battery Passport
Transparent journey from raw material to recycling – powered by openbattery.passport & Minespider

What is the Battery Passport?
The Battery Passport is a smart digital ID – embedded in every battery via a QR code. It records origin, chemistry, diagnostics, and lifecycle steps. Each checkpoint updates the passport, building a transparent history for regulators, manufacturers, recyclers, and end users.
Core Features
- Origin Tracking: Country and mine of source material, certified via Minespider standards.
- Chemistry & Diagnostics: Lithium‑ion or alternative composition, voltage, capacity data automatically logged.
- Lifecycle Updates: Timestamped events: assembly, shipping, usage, repurposing, end‑of‑life.
- QR‑Code Interface: Easily scan the QR for real‑time data via openbattery.passport protocol.

How It Works
- Material Sourcing: Mines report batch info to Minespider; aggregated into passport.
- Manufacturing: Factory logs site, date, QC metrics under openbattery.passport.
- Distribution & Use: Each scan logs location & battery health stats.
- End‑of‑Life & Recycling: Recyclers decode QR, log disposal or repurposing actions.

Technical Integration
Our solution uses open-standard JSON-LD payloads under openbattery.passport. Integration steps:
- Embed printable QR code in battery packaging or module.
- Use mobile/warehouse scanner app to fetch & display current JSON record.
- Append events via secure API – each event is signed for integrity.
- Public & private keys ensure only authorized entities can update.

Benefits for Stakeholders
- Regulators: Full audit trail verifying ethical sourcing and compliance.
- Manufacturers: Streamline recall processes, monitor warranty claims properly.
- Buyers & Consumers: Trust in battery lifespan, safety credentials, recyclability.
- Recyclers: Know chemistry upfront, optimize material recovery, reduce risk.
